Complete Vision Assessment and Eye Health Exam
Your examination is divided into 2 parts:
Our doctors are certified to diagnose and treat ocular diseases including, but not limited to, glaucoma, pink eye, inflammation, infections and ocular allergy. They are also certified to remove foreign bodies from the eye.
This is performed after the Complete Assessment and Eye Health Examination and is scheduled when the doctor deems it necessary. This is a separate visit and is performed by Dr. Stacie. This exam is an in depth evaluation of the functional visual abilities of oculomotor control (eye tracking), accommodative ability (focusing), binocular control (eye teaming ability) and stereopsis (binocular depth perception).
This is a separate testing session lasting approximately one hour and is performed by one of our trained Vision Therapists. This appointment is scheduled when one of the doctors deems it necessary. The purpose of this visit is to determine how the visual system processes information, how vision integrates with the other sense modalities, and to determine whether vision is supporting or interfering with performance to full potential.More about perceptual testing and the areas we evaluate at Prosper Family Eyecare:
Some of the areas that will be evaluated include:
Contact Lens Examination
Our doctors will evaluate and determine the best type of contact lens for each individual patient. This involves determining the size, shape, power and material of contact lenses, monitoring the effects of the contact lenses on the overall health of the eye and determining the need for a change in power &/or material.
Correct Your Vision While You Sleep!
Corneal molding or Orthokeratology (OrthoK) is a safe non-invasive and reversible treatment technique to reduce or eliminate the need for glasses and daytime contact lenses. This is achieved by placing a corneal mold or lens on the eye before sleeping and removing it after waking. OrthoK treatment is great for kids and adults and can be used to treat myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), astigmatism and presbyopia (the need for reading glasses). To achieve this treatment Dr. Kelvin designs customized corneal molds specific to your unique corneal curvature and visual needs. Dr. Kelvin is a member of the American Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control. To learn more about OrthoK, visit www.okglobal.org.
Myopia (Nearsightedness) Control
Does your child's prescription keep increasing every year? Myopia progression is due primarily to lengthening of the eye typically from age 8 to 18. OrthoK can be used to slow or stop progression of myopia. Children in the Retardation of Myopia in Orthokeratology (ROMIO) Study (2012) showed a 43% reduction in myopia progression with OrthoK treatment when compared children who wore glasses. The full ROMIO study can be viewed at: http://www.iovs.org/content/53/11/7077.full.
Specialty Contact Lens Services
Dr. Kelvin specializes in fitting contact lenses for patients who suffer from irregular corneas due to Keratoconus, Pellucid Marginal Degeneration, Corneal Transplant and refractive surgery (Lasik and RK). Dr. Kelvin uses the WAVE contact lens system to design customized corneal and scleral lenses for the best possible vision on even the most irregular corneas.
Vision therapy is a treatment approach which involves activities that are practiced by the patient both in office and at home. This treatment is designed to help the child reach his/her normal level of development in the visual processing skills that are found to be deficient. The success of vision therapy has been documented in scientific literature.
At Prosper Family Eyecare we offer in-office therapy where there is a 1:1 ratio with the child and the vision therapist. The duration of treatment is dependent on the nature and severity of the diagnosis.
